First: secure the area, not the snake
Before anything else:
- Move children and pets indoors or well away
- Keep eyes on the snake from a distance if you can — losing track of it causes more anxiety than the snake itself
- Do not attempt to catch, corner or kill it — a large share of snake bites happen during exactly those attempts
