Share a List With a Link, Not an Invitation Process
Sharing is usually the worst part of any collaboration tool. You need the other person’s email address, they have to make an account, confirm it, pick a password. By the time that’s done you’ve given up and sent a screenshot instead.
A link skips all of it. You send it the same way you’d send anything else, and whoever opens it is on the list.
Why email invites put people off
An email invitation assumes you know someone’s address, that they still check it, and that they’re willing to create an account for a shopping list. At least one of those is usually wrong.
It also puts all the effort on the person being invited, before they’ve seen anything useful. That’s a hard sell for a list of groceries.
How the link works
The link points at one specific list. Open it on an iPhone and that list appears in the app, and from then on both of you see changes as they happen.

What the other person can and can’t see
A link only ever opens the one list it came from. Everything else in your app stays yours, and joining a shared list gives nobody a view of the rest.
Sync runs through iCloud, so the contents sit in your iCloud account and your collaborators’ rather than on a server we run.
